PayDues is an information resource about dues and membership payments — what they are, how to pay them, and how organizations collect and manage them.
Why this site exists
Dues are one of the most common financial obligations people have, and one of the least well explained. Members are told to pay an amount by a date through a channel they have to hunt for, with little explanation of what it funds or what happens if they do not.
On the other side, the people collecting dues are usually volunteers — treasurers, secretaries, membership officers — doing it alongside a job or a degree, often inheriting a process nobody documented and rebuilding it from fragments each year.
PayDues tries to answer both sets of questions properly: what dues are, how they differ between kinds of organization, how to pay them without the payment going astray, and how to run collection so it stays accurate and survives a change of officers.
What PayDues does not do
- PayDues does not collect dues and is not a payment processor. No payment is ever taken on this site.
- PayDues does not hold accounts. There is nothing here to register for or log into.
- PayDues is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any organization described on this site.
- PayDues does not maintain a directory of organizations and cannot tell you what a particular organization charges or where its payment page is.
- PayDues does not give financial, tax or legal advice. Where dues have tax or legal consequences, those depend on your jurisdiction and circumstances.
If you need to know what you owe or where to pay it, contact your organization directly. Its constitution or bylaws, and the law where you live, take precedence over anything written here.
How the content is written
Pages are written to answer a real question rather than to occupy a search term. Where practice varies between countries, organizations or legal systems — which it does constantly with dues — the content says so instead of presenting one arrangement as universal.
Where something is genuinely a matter for your own organization or your own jurisdiction, we say that too. A guide that told you confidently what your union’s rules say would be wrong more often than it was right.
PayDues and Sellrow
PayDues is published by the team behind Sellrow, a platform organizations use to collect and manage membership dues online.
The two are deliberately separate. PayDues is the public information layer and takes no payments; Sellrow is the application where organizations create an account, manage members, collect dues and see their records. When you click a “log in” or “get started” link on this site, you are going to Sellrow — PayDues has no accounts of its own.
That relationship is stated plainly on every page where it is relevant, and it is covered in more detail on PayDues and Sellrow. The information on this site is written to be useful whether or not you ever use Sellrow.
Corrections
Dues practice varies enormously and this site will sometimes get something wrong or state it too generally. If you find an error — particularly one about how things work in a specific country or kind of organization — it is worth telling us so it can be corrected.
